Victoria Kimani’s most recent album, “Spirit Animal” has been considered for a Grammy nomination. The former Chocolate City-based rapper made this announcement on her Instagram on the 23rd of October as a thankful post to her fans and team. Victoria is one of the most successful Kenyan artists and this announcement was long overdue considering the amount of quality content she has been constantly putting out over the years. The album, which was released on the 24th of September 2021, has been considered for the Best Global Music Album category.

The album has been in the making for quite a while now and features some of the best acts across the globe including hart the band, KiDi, Bella Shmurda, Peruzzi, Yemi Alade, Bella Alubo, Priddy Ugly, Lady Du, and BitterSoul.
The afro-pop album is full of catchy tunes and fully brings out the prowess of Victoria as a songwriter. She manages to delicately balance between effectively delivering her message and remaining a bop through her lyrics. She has also worked alongside various talented producers on the album bringing out different creative elements on each song. The final product is a complete album with no skips at all. Hopefully, this new milestone will be what ushers in her reign over the African music scene as one of the top acts.

Victoria started her musical journey back in 2009 when she joined a duo by the name of Club Embassy and signed to Los Angeles Laker Ron Artest and released a mixtape called Diplomatic Immunity hosted by 50 cent’s DJ Whoo kid. The project managed to get 250,000 downloads and created a lot of Industry buzz. In 2010, the duo split and she proceeded to work on her solo projects and managed to collaborate with many industry greats such as Maino, JadaKiss, Busta Rhymes, Chris Brown, Timbaland, her brother Bamboo, Diamon Platnumz, Omni Dimpoz among many others.

She, later on, was signed to Africa’s most lucrative record label, Chocolate City, and was even termed as the label’s first lady. Her first single and music video under the label “M’TOTO” was an instant hit and reigned over the airwaves and clubs across the globe. Her second single and music video, “Oya” featuring MI was the first Kenyan video to be premiered on VEVO. Ever since then she has continued releasing hits after hits and in the process collecting numerous awards and nominations. Her discography is quite impressive as she has released several mixtapes and two albums as well as several hit singles and music videos. She is currently an independent artist as her deal with Chocolate city expired and she chose to further her career with the skills she acquired at the label.
In conclusion, Victoria has played a major step in putting the Kenyan music scene on the globe and hopefully, she will bag this award and cement our place in Africa as among the best musical countries. Let us all support her fully when the voting time finally comes. #MadeInKenya.
